Dear Methacton Families,
In light of the recent CDC guidance on masking, PDE guidance on lessening of COVID-19 mitigation measures and in conversation with the Montgomery County Department of Health today (5/14/2021) regarding masking and distancing, the Methacton School District will be proceeding forward with the following:
Masking will remain part of the requirement for the remainder of the school year as outlined in the Methacton Health and Safety Plan. This requires masks to be worn at all times for students and staff, indoors and outdoors. The only exceptions are made under the Health and Safety Plan for Athletics and those exceptions outlined within the approved Health and Safety Plan.
While this may appear to be more restrictive than the recent guidance, it will properly limit the challenges associated with deciphering among and between vaccinated and unvaccinated students and staff. Furthermore, it limits the challenges to ensuring continuity of instruction through to the end of the school year given potential staff concerns and/or concerns by parents/students.
Lastly, while the guidance references a decline in positivity and incidence rates -- which is good -- making a change at this point going into and coming out of our next long weekend when transmission spikes typically happen could be problematic.
Thank you for your diligent efforts as we stay the course.
Sincerely,
Dr. David Zerbe
Superintendent of Schools
