Congratulations to Methacton High School's creative arts magazine, Element! The student-run magazine has been recognized as EXCELLENT by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) for the Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines (REALM) Contest.
Schools in 45 states and six countries nominated 421 student magazines for the 2024 NCTE REALM competition. The contest accepted submissions from middle school, high school, and higher education publications. The REALM program publicly recognizes excellent literary magazines produced by students with the support of their teachers. REALM is designed to encourage all schools to develop literary magazines that celebrate the art and craft of writing.
Element is Methacton High School’s annual creative arts magazine, showcasing the artistic and literary talents of students and faculty. Featuring a diverse collection of artwork, creative writing, and photography, Element highlights the vibrant creativity within the school community. Lee Ann van der Kwast is an English and Creative Writing teacher at Methacton High School and has been the club advisor for Element for eleven years. The Element Creative Arts Publishing Club meets weekly after school to design the magazine’s layout and develop a unique theme each year.
