Dear Methacton Families,
Providing an environment that is safe and inclusive for all our students is fundamental and our top priority. All students deserve equal opportunities afforded by our district and it is our responsibility as adults to nurture a respectful and inclusive environment.
The recent events throughout the country are having an adverse impact on many children and adults. It is important now more than ever that we support each other with compassion and empathy. As adults, as teachers, as parents, and school leaders, it is up to us to have meaningful conversations that can build trust and dispel racism.
Please find at the bottom of this message a few resources for help with the conversations. As always, our school counselors are available to speak with you should you need that support. Click HERE for School Counselor contact information.

Dear Methacton Parents/Guardians and Community,
As part of our planning process to ensure a safe and productive return to school this fall, we are seeking input from parents/guardians and members of the community.
This input is being collected in two phases. First, we distributed a parent survey on May 27 to gather feedback from families on their experience from March 2020 through June 2020, while also seeking feedback on options associated with the return to school in late August 2020.
Second, we need to address potential challenges associated with a safe return to learning on premises this fall. While there are a number of challenges, we have grouped them into the following 4 focus areas:
- (Focus Area 1)= Curriculum, Instruction and Special Education;
- (Focus Area 2)= Transportation, Facilities and Operations;
- (Focus Area 3)= Wellness/Food/Safety; and
- (Focus Area 4)= Extra-Curricular Activities and Communications.
Please keep in mind that there are a number of health organizations that have issued guidelines for the reopening of schools:
- CDC Guidelines for Reopening Schools
- American Academy of Pediatrics: COVID-19 Planning Considerations - Return to In-person Education in Schools
- Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia: Policy Review - Evidence and Considerations for School Reopenings
Each focus group will attempt to meet virtually as often as necessary in June. We will gather feedback from each focus group and use that information as part of our action plan that we will present to the School Board in July. We intend to communicate the definitive plan to parents and students at the most appropriate time in July/early August.
As always, the safety of our students, staff and community is of paramount importance in this process.
Meeting Dates/Times
- Focus Area 1 – Curriculum, Instruction and Special Education - June 4th, 6 pm -7:30 pm
- Focus Area 2 – Transportation, Facilities and Operations - June 9th, 6 pm -7:30 pm
- Focus Area 3 – Wellness/Food/Safety - June 4th, 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm
- Focus Area 4 – Extra Curricular Activities and Communications - June 8th, 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
To express interest in participating in one or all of these virtual focus groups, parents/guardians and community members can sign up HERE by June 3rd at 3pm. Participants will receive a link to the virtual focus group(s) at least 24 hours before their scheduled meeting.
Sincerely,

Good Evening Methacton Families,
As we are approaching the end of what we can all agree will be a memorable school year – I want you to know that while our students and teachers continue online learning activities, we have already begun planning for the 2020-2021 school year.
Our planning for next school year will consider the feedback/suggestions from students, parents, and staff while keeping focus on student and staff safety, structure, rigor, and access for all students. Please look for the parent feedback and suggestion survey coming out later this week/early next week.
Please know that while we are planning, there remains some uncertainty from the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Governor’s Office with regards to how schools in Pennsylvania will reopen in September. While I am receiving updates regularly, some decisions by the State are too early to make.
Regardless, Methacton will plan to provide rigorous educational opportunities that challenge students and allow for academic growth consistent with the high expectations of our students, parents and staff. It is likely that some form of a modified school year start consisting of on premises and online instruction may be allowed. While not definitive, please know that we will continue to plan for this and a number of other potential scenarios and will communicate those plans in the coming months as more definitive direction unfolds from the State.
We are focused on keeping the learning process moving forward->

Dear Methacton students and families,
As educators, it is our top priority to nurture the whole child and that includes keeping those in our care safe. Social distancing has limited the contact students have with peers and other trusted confidants. I would like to remind our students, parents, and staff of tools that remain available in our virtual learning environment to report concerns regarding child abuse, bullying, threats, self-harm, depression, and other troubling behaviors or actions. Those who feel unsafe or who are concerned about the safety of a friend are encouraged to utilize the Safe2Say Something app and helpline. All tips are anonymous. Dear Methacton Families,
Although schools remain closed due to the COVID-19 crisis, we recognize that it has resulted in hardships for our community. We want to remind you that there are various food resources available in the district.
PA State Representative Joe Webster recently announced a meal distribution program for Methacton families. Starting on Tuesday, May 12, meals will be distributed from 11:00am-1:00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays from the Ridge Pike Plaza parking lot at 3200 Ridge Pike, Eagleville. If you’re interested in receiving meals next week, please sign up with the form HERE by Thursday, May 7th, 12PM.
Meals will be distributed in front of Via Roma Pizza, who is generously providing the cold storage. This will be a drive-up, no-contact model with volunteers placing the food directly into car trunks. You must wear a mask or face covering when you pick up your food.
Every week a new meal pick-up registration form will be sent out through various channels. Please sign up once each week for the days you plan to pick up food for that week. After your initial registration, you will receive an email every week with the new pick-up registration form. All questions or inquiries should be sent to: Mealsfor150@gmail.com

Good Morning Methacton,
My administration and I would like to wish everyone a very, very good morning!
In other news…
Please know that Principals will be communicating in the near future regarding many of the traditional end of year processes such as distribution of Yearbooks, handing in of books/computers/materials where applicable, and gathering of student personal belongings. We are taking great care to organize a safe and efficient means to exchange materials and will communicate the dates, times and procedure soon.
In addition, Principals are organizing traditional end of year recognition and transition activities to help recognize outstanding achievement and support student progress to the next grade and/or to a new building. Stay tuned.
Kindergarten registration has opened for the 2020-2021 school year. The district has organized an online process as a result of the COVID-19 matter. You can find information here.
Sincerely,

Dear Methacton Families,
Thank you for being a true partner with us in the education of your children. While we were partners prior to the closing of schools, it is, more now than ever, clear how much we depend upon each other to educate and support your children and our students.
I know our professional, support, and administrative staff are working within the Methacton Virtual Learning program in a variety of ways to provide instruction, check the wellbeing of students, provide supports, and simply connect. It is without a doubt, that while our learning environment has changed and we continue to cheer each other on from a distance, challenges are being transformed into opportunities that will keep us strong and supportive as we tackle this together.
So - thank you students, thank you parents, and thank you teachers, staff and administrators for all that you do and will continue to do.
Graduation and Senior Recognition
One of the most significant matters before us is how we can best recognize our seniors in the most appropriate and respectful manner considering the traditional celebratory nature of this culminating life event. There is no question that our seniors deserve a graduation that has traditionally been afforded to previous graduating classes, but as you know, our challenge is unique.
As you now know, the county is not planning on relaxing the large gathering order currently in place any time soon and potentially for the remainder of the summer. As such, High School Principal Dr. Sorgini and his team have been working on an alternative to a traditional graduation. He and his team have received suggestions on how to recognize and appropriately celebrate graduation and I want thank everyone who provided suggestions.
In an effort to provide our seniors with a timely, appropriate, and safe Class of 2020 Graduation, we will on June 11, 2020, be holding a Drive-In Movie style ceremony for graduates and their immediate families. Some of the major highlights of this ceremony include:
- Opportunity for graduate to be properly recognized in the presence of their peers and their immediate family;
- Traditional wearing of caps and gowns and recognition of group and individual student accomplishments;
- Several opportunities for professional photography of graduate;
- Livestreamed event to participants and community to allow for viewing of stage, scheduled speakers, and recognition of accomplishments from the safety and convenience of their own vehicle;
- Filming of entire event on the ground and by a drone fly-over;
- Opportunity to demonstrate personality through the decoration of vehicle;
- Graduates will receive diploma at the conclusion of ceremony;
- Additional photo opportunities on field/building in Cap and Gown to be scheduled in July/August;
- Senior student/parent luncheon/cookout on August 5 – details to come in June;
- Safety and security measures organized to support these celebratory activities before, during and following the event.
Dr. Sorgini has shared this plan with local law enforcement, many staff members, and the senior class officers – all of which support these planned activities and are thrilled for the opportunity to share one last moment together, as a class, and to be recognized in the presence of their immediate family and the larger Methacton community.
More detail on Graduation to come out next week from Dr. Sorgini.
In terms of Senior Recognition – Dr. Sorgini and his team have communicated with students and parents on the following activities underway:- Decision Day Video – Culminating video being produced of student announcements of their future career, service, and college plans.
- Yard Signs – In coordination with the Post Prom Committee – all seniors will be provided a sign.
- Yearbooks - Are being mailed. A spring supplement will be mailed this summer.
- Senior Shirts - A Senior tradition that will be produced and disseminated in June prior to graduation.
- Senior Superlatives – Will be sent out in the coming weeks.
- Student Awards Ceremony – A virtual event to be sent out on May 20.
- And More…information to be released next week.
OTHER DISTRICT MATTERS
Activity Refund Processing
As a result of school closings, we had to cancel a number of events, trips, and activities that parents had pre-paid. The Methacton Business Office is currently working with activity sponsors and others in charge of these canceled matters to issue complete and full refunds for all of these activities. Checks should be arriving in the mail over the next several weeks.
Books/Computers/Material Returns and Pickup
Building Principals are finalizing plans for the return and pick up of items from home to school and from school to home that will provide an efficient and safe exchange. The plan will allow teachers to begin the end-of-year classroom prep process in May, with exchanges being scheduled beginning in June.
Final Student Medication Distribution
While we provided opportunity to parents to acquire student medication stored in schools back in the early part of the school closure process, final arrangements are being made by the school nurses this week and next to complete any remaining distribution.
Computer/Technology Distribution
To date, we have distributed nearly 350 Chrome Books to families for use by students. If there is a need for additional technology, please contact information@methacton.org.
Food Distribution
The Methacton School District has had two large distributions of food and has a third planned for May 20, 2020. The large Backpack Program food distribution, led by School Board Vice President Elizabeth Drummond and members Jen Cancro and Drew Maginnis along with Supervisor Dr. Jamie Gravinese, will have distributed more than 600 back packs during the school closure. For information on additional Food Resources, please see this link.
Methacton Virtual Backgrounds
While teachers and support staff from around the district have already or are beginning to leverage synchronous communications and instructional methods, we felt as though providing some Methacton Virtual Backgrounds would be appropriate. Use one of these the next time you have a Zoom connection.
In closing - The past several weeks have been nothing less than incredible. Thank you for your support and partnership. So while our buildings are closed -- we will continue to be there for your children. Now let’s all imagine a return to normalcy with the thought of seeing each other at graduation and for the start of the 2020-2021 school year.
Sincerely,
Dr. David Zerbe

Dear Methacton Families,
Please be advised that all Methacton Schools are now ordered to be closed through the end of the school year.
This morning, the Pennsylvania Secretary of Education announced that he issued an order under Act 13 of 2020 to close all public schools through the end of the 2019-2020 academic year, as defined by the local school calendar.
Additionally, Governor Wolf is ordering all K-12 schools and programs, public and private, to be closed through the end of the 2019-2020 academic year. Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts, Head Start Supplemental Assistance Programs and Preschool Early Intervention programs will also remain closed, and institutions of higher education are prohibited from offering in-person instruction.
This announcement will allow us to better communicate and execute, with certainty, the remaining matters of the school year to students, parents, staff, and the community.
I recognize that each group of individuals will have particular questions going forward. We have planned for this and will be back in Virtual Classrooms with students on April 14 and I will be back in contact with families regarding the many other proceedings that will need to occur as a result of today’s announcement.
Thank you for your commitment to all things Methacton!
Enjoy the Holiday - Stay safe, Stay home, and Stay Methacton Proud!

Dear Methacton Families,
I share this message in hope that your family and you can find time during this spring break to enjoy and value your time together. As per the approved district calendar, all Methacton Virtual Classrooms will be on holiday from April 8 through April 13, 2020. There are no requirements for student attendance during this time. All students will return to the Methacton Virtual Classrooms on April 14, 2020.
As a reminder, there are a number of resources organized to provide students and families with information on how to access educational resources, food resources, counseling resources and more. In terms of frequently asked questions, see our FAQ page. Of particular importance, please know that the Safe to Say system is operational and serves as a valuable tool to support your child in time of need and crisis.
We suggest that you take time over this holiday to separate yourself from the computer, phone, and other life-distracting gadgets, to truly embrace your family and loved ones, read a good book, and simply reflect.
Stay safe, Stay home, and Stay Methacton Proud!!!

Dear Methacton Parents,
Beginning Tuesday, March 31, our teachers will be providing instruction via Google Classroom online. This means we will be taking attendance and providing work that will be counted toward advancing students to the next grade level/graduation.
Important Matters:
-
We are here for you, your children and this community. Know that we are all facing personal, work and education challenges. Know that as parents/guardians, you are best suited to support your child in their education. If you find that you need advice or additional information, please contact your child’s school counselor or principal.
-
Daily attendance is designed to safeguard all students in this new environment. Aside from supporting them with the assignments, etc., please ensure that each child in your household submits their attendance online daily. Simple instructions are found here.
-
Please find the Methacton School District Remote Learning Guide that summarizes the planned instructional program.

Dear Methacton Families,
With the Methacton Virtual Instruction program ready to begin on Tuesday, March 31, 2020, we believe that the following items will be helpful in navigating along with us.
Key Matters:
ACCOUNT ACCESS
Parents must know that our teachers will be communicating with your child through the child’s district provided email account.
- We will be sending more detailed instruction to the email addresses of the Primary parent/guardian contact on Monday, March 30, 2020 of students in grades K-4 to further help in this matter.
- All students can find their email address in PowerSchool by going to the School Information section.
- Passwords for Elementary student emails are a combination of school abbreviation + period + Student ID. Click HERE for detailed instructions.
- Student ID number is also found in PowerSchool.
- If Skyview, Arcola, or HS student forgets password, they can reset it using the following accounts page: https://accounts.methacton.org/
HOW TO ACCESS GOOGLE CLASSROOM
Especially for parents of elementary-aged children and parents new to Google Classroom, we have provided a slide show on using Google Classroom and a simple step process to guide you through logging into your child’s Methacton Google Classroom.
GRADING
As a reminder, grades K-8 will use a pass/fail grading system for the fourth marking period. We will be providing guidelines and expectations on this pass/fail system in the coming days.
In grades 9-12, we will continue to use our current grading system to score completed assignments and activities. However, we are fully aware that we will need greater flexibility in grading knowing that the virtual environment is going to be new for many of our students.
Our building administrators, teachers, and instructional aides will be monitoring your child’s work, attendance, and grades to safeguard this new learning process.
ATTENDANCE
Attendance for all students will be taken on a daily basis. While the student expectations for completing work provide for the student to flex their learning and assignment time, we are requiring students to log on each day by 12noon and submit their attendance for the day through the provided Google Classroom for daily attendance.
The submission of daily attendance by students should take no longer than 1 minute each day. The process of submitting attendance allows our teachers, administration, and instructional aides to maintain a check on the status of each child on a daily basis to safeguard all children in this new learning process.
Sincerely,
Dr. David Zerbe

Dear Methacton Families,
Third marking period report cards will be posted in PowerSchool on April 22nd for parents of students in grades 1 through 12. The grades will be determined based on assessments/assignments students completed through March 11th, our last day in buildings.
Parent and student visibility of the report card section will be disabled as of Monday, 3/30, while teachers complete the report card process. You will, however, continue to be able to view the grades being entered for tests and assignments.
Parent portal information and instructions on how to access and/or establish your account may be found on the district’s website at www.methacton.org/powerschool.
As a reminder, paper report cards will not distributed, except in the case of families who have expressed a need. Please contact the building principal or secretary if you are in need of a paper report card.
Thank you,

Dear Methacton Families,
It is with great optimism that I share an update on the future of Methacton Schools.
While you are aware that our school closure will extend through April 13, 2020 in accordance with the Governor’s orders and the district calendar, we will not be waiting any longer to get the education of students proceeding forward.
In fact, our Methacton teachers have been busy all week preparing to welcome students into their Google Classrooms beginning next week (specific date to be communicated shortly).
We recognize that for some children, an online classroom will be a different learning environment. For our High School and Arcola students, they are already in a one to one device to student program and have been using the Google Classroom and suite of applications for some time. Our students at Skyview Upper Elementary School have been well prepared with the use of technology where many students have used Google Classrooms. Students at the Elementary level may be experiencing the use of the Google Classroom for the first time. So in any case, we believe that it is important as we progress together in this teacher-parent/guardian partnership, we provide some things for you to consider:
Flexibility: Parents/Guardians must consider the most convenient time for your child to log into the course material to suit the learning for the child, the home schedule, access to technology and, at some levels, the availability of assistance from adults in the home when needed. This is especially important in homes with multiple children. Given the fact that many parents are also working from home, it is recommended that the family determine the best location, time of day, and the amount of time per day for learning to take place.
Time Management: Students at all levels will need to manage their time. Students will not be on a bell schedule. Teachers will be assigning work that may have varying time requirements and due dates for submission. Online learning will not be on the same schedule for all children and will not be similar to the brick and mortar environment. Students will pace themselves towards completion of assignments based on the due dates provided and support from teachers. They can read and review course material at their leisure. The district has made the following time management recommendations:
- Elementary students should not spend more than 10 hours per week on Google Classroom Assignments
- Skyview, Arcola and High School students should not spend more than 15 hours per week on Google Classroom Assignments
Interaction with Teachers: Teachers in an online environment primarily guide students through the pre-written or pre-recorded course material, rather than teach it in a synchronous fashion (teacher and class of 25 students on a video conference together at same time (live instruction)). The majority of the interaction with teachers will come from class discussions and feedback on assignments inside the Google Classroom or via exchange of email between the teacher to and from the student’s Methacton email account. So while students will have access to material 24/7 and will create the flexible time in the home for learning to occur, their teachers may not always be available at the same time. In order to best accommodate student, parent and teacher expectations in this environment, all teachers will be posting office hours that will indicate when, on a given day, they are planning to address questions, email, etc.
Grading: The High School will continue to grade in the same fashion as they did prior to the school closures by assigning letter grades for the 4th marking period. Elementary, Skyview, and Arcola will move to a pass/fail grading system beginning with the 4th marking period.
Audio/Printing/Other Technology: Many of the 3rd party applications that our teachers will be directing students to use for assignments and/or extra skill practice will have sound. While the Chromebooks play sound directly from the computer, you may want to consider the use of headphones or other means to limit extraneous noise within the household while maximizing the student experience. Our teachers have been instructed to not provide assignments that require the printing of materials at home. If students are using a school district issued Chromebook or other Windows device, their access to the Internet is filtered in the same manner as if they were using the device at school. Therefore, it is important for parents/guardians to know that the use of a home computer, while it will allow the child to access all the teacher materials, it may not filter ads or other non-educational materials from being displayed.
Course Availability: The use of the Google Classroom platform will NOT mimic the brick and mortar environment in schedule or in number of courses. In fact, the Elementary, Skyview, and Arcola levels will be focusing on core instruction in areas such as Math, Reading, English, ELA, Social Studies, Science, and World Language (grade 8). Students will have a variety of specials or related arts offerings throughout a given week from which they may choose from in areas such as Art, Music, Physical Education, Health, and Technology Education.
Lastly, I want you to know that we recognize that this may be a lot for families to process at this time. Please know that our school counselors are available if you should need to discuss any of these matters. Remember, we are in this together and are here for your child and our community.
Sincerely,
Dr. David Zerbe

Dear Methacton Families,
Given recent guidance from the state and county Departments of Health to limit the spread of COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of the Winter/Spring Community Education classes. Refunds will be provided to registrants for classes that have yet to begin. Pro-rated refunds will be provided for classes that were in session, but impacted by the recent school closure. Registrants will be refunded via the same payment method used to register (check or credit card). Cash payments will be refunded via check.
We have also amended the number of activities and events that are now canceled due to the state-mandated closure through April 13. You can find that information here.
We appreciate your understanding as we navigate these challenging times. Please continue to follow updates at www.methacton.org/COVID.
Sincerely,

Dear Methacton Families,
As parents and guardians, I am certain you are thinking about how your child is impacted by all of the news related to COVID-19. Some of you may wish to avoid talking to your child about COVID-19 and this is certainly a personal decision. Your child, though, may be more aware of what is going on than you realize due to the ongoing changes to school, home and community routines along with hearing the news, viewing social media, and talking to their friends.
Given this, we want to provide you with a list of resources to help you to talk about these changes with your child and respond to any questions or worries about COVID-19.
If you have any other questions or need additional help, please feel free to contact your child’s school counselor via their email address.

March 19, 2020 - 9:20pm
Good Evening Methacton Families,
During this unprecedented time, you and your family, like my family and I, are challenged with the uncertainty of the future. Together, as partners in the education of your children, I want you to know that we have been there for your children and will continue to be there for your children as we navigate these unique and challenging times together.
My hope, like yours, is to remain focused on how and when we can return to normalcy. However, until that time comes, we must navigate these uncharted waters together and remain focused on what we can best manage given that many Methacton students, families, and staff live in Pennsylvania’s epicenter of the COVID-19 matter. To be more specific, even with school closed, the Department of Health has required over 40 Methacton staff and over 100 students to self–quarantine/isolation due to contact tracings. Assisting the Department of Health to inform staff and families of their exposure while maintaining a focus on the many challenges associated with school closure has been difficult.
I must state that this is uncharted territory and with Methacton being at the epicenter, our issues, while not apparent, have made our decisions a little bit different from some of our neighbors. As such, I would like to share a brief overview of the matters to which we have accomplished to date and what our plans are going forward.
- We arranged for a student pick up of medication on March 16, 2020. With the assistance of our school nurses, we contacted families and made the necessary arrangements for this to occur.
- We arranged for over 60 families who were in need of computer access to pick up a district provided Chromebook on Tuesday, March 17, 2020.
- We implemented the optional Educere online learning platform and other online resources for students in 1-12 beginning Monday, March 16, 2020.
- We assisted the Montgomery County Department of Health and provided numerous communications related to student and staff primary contact matters.
- With the help of our school counselors and school board members, we arranged, packed, and delivered over 60 food backpacks to families in our community to ensure they had a two-week supply on hand.
- District administrators have participated in numerous conference and video calls with each other, neighboring districts, the MCIU, PDE and the Governor’s office.
- Held numerous calls and communications with our state legislators and their respective aides on matters relating to a variety of issues, such as continuity of education, school requirements, testing, and food distribution.
While the list above only captures the high-level activities completed, it is important for you to know where we are going. As such, we will be doing the following:
- On Friday, March 20, 2020, we will be releasing a Mental Health Resources communication for families.
- Beginning next week, teachers will be planning for the delivery of NEW INSTRUCTION for all students, K-12 by Methacton teachers via Google Classroom. This planning is in response to the potential that school may not open on March 30. If we are not allowed to re-open our school buildings on March 30, then Methacton teachers will be ready to teach in a virtual environment to support our students. Please know that more information on this is coming.
- We will continue to provide timely communications to support our students and families as we stay focused on our path forward.
- We are working to provide a means to allow students, using a safe and controlled procedure, to gather musical instruments, athletic equipment, books etc. More information will be shared sometime next week.
- We are working with our special education teachers and related service providers to develop plans on how services could be provided to support the needs of our students.
- We are addressing a myriad of personnel and operational issues that are impacted by last evening’s passing of federal legislation.
- We will be ramping up communications from our staff -- likely Wednesday of next week -- to begin preparing for future needs associated with the delivery of instruction in a virtual environment.
Lastly, I just want you to know that we are all Methacton Warriors and we can face the challenges before us. As we move forward, we need to stay focused so we can continue to Learn, Lead and Succeed, Together!
Sincerely,
Dr. David Zerbe

Dear Methacton Families,
This message is intended to apprise families of additional measures Methacton Schools are deploying to help students and families during these challenging times. For each of the past five years, Methacton students, eligible under the federal Free and Reduced School Meals Program, have been afforded access to the staff-led student BackPack Program. Methaton’s BackPack Program provides a variety of food items for weekend meals that are delivered to families in a back pack. In general, we average 150 student backpacks on a weekly basis. As such, we felt it necessary to contact these families to determine their need during this two-week closure. To date, our School Board, led by members Elizabeth Drummond, Jennifer Cancro, and Andrew Maginnis, have packed and delivered over 60 two-week back packs to families, many of whom included multiple eligible students.
We will continue to take requests by emailing information@methacton.org and have placed additional resources on the District’s website for places in our community that families can get additional food assistance. We encourage anyone interested in making a donation or volunteering to contact one of our local food pantries or churches that have been a mainstay of resources for us.
Sincerely,
Dr. David Zerbe

Dear Methacton Families:
Educere began sending emails to families on March 16, 2020, that contain the website link for online learning, and a unique student username and password for the learning environment. A majority of our families have received the information and have successfully begun using the program. We have been informed that families with students in first, second, and third grade have yet to receive a link from Educere to their students' email. We have notified Educere and they are working to find a solution to this issue. Thank you for your patience as the rollout continues.

Dear District Families,
This communication addresses the following:
1. Methacton Teacher communication protocol
2. Status of Educere online learning
We understand you may have questions related to the current and future status of our schools. The fact that PA school districts are not required to provide instructional programming, supports, and services during this forced closure is challenging for our students and our families.
Please know that these times are equally challenging for our teachers who are also dealing with similar COVID-19 threats, the changes to their way of life, and the changes taking place in our communities.
I ask students and parents to not email or try to connect with your teacher(s) or counselor(s)
for school-related work during this time.
If you have already sent messages to them, please know that as part of our continuity plan, teachers have been instructed to not reply to requests for work. If you should have questions, please email information@methacton.org.
During the closure, we are providing resources for student learning at home. Students will be encouraged, but not required, to participate in Educere learning to maintain a level of academic focus.
Earlier today we announced that email notifications to Methacton student email accounts were being sent. Please know that while many have been sent, there are many that still remain to be sent. If you have not received a message from Educere.net, please check the student email account tomorrow for that message. When you log in, you will see course work for the Semester / 11 weeks with an end date of June. This is the only way we could have the course provided to you. If choosing to access the material, break up the course work as you see fit.
In terms of correct courses and other technical questions, please send all requests to information@methacton.org ONLY.
By having all questions and requests in one central location, we can constantly monitor this account and work directly with Educere to address any required revisions or issues as soon as possible.
In terms of AP and Kindergarten materials, communications will follow in the coming days.
Sincerely,
Dr. David Zerbe

March 16, 2020 - 10:45am
Dear District Families,
This message contains the following information:
1. General Update
2. Access to Virtual Environment
The Governor made it clear that school districts will not be required to make up the school days as a result of the forced closures. As such, we anticipate that if able to return to normal operation on March 30, 2020, we would remain on target for the school year to complete on or about June 12, 2020.
While our schools remain closed, we believe that it is prudent that students and parents have the option to maintain academic focus. Our partnership with Educere provides that opportunity for students to access learning at their own pace. Students who attend the North Montco Technical Career Center and students with IEPs are all being provided access to core academic content at their level.
Beginning today, Monday March 16, 2020, our partner, Educere Educational Services will be sending an email to students in grades 1 through 12. The email will come from @educere.net. The email will contain the website link for online learning, and a unique student username and password for the learning environment. Given that students in grades in grades 7 through 12 participate in the district’s 1 to 1 program, the student will know their email address and should be able to retrieve this information and begin using the system later today.
Students in grades 5 and 6 use computers regularly in school. However, they do not commonly access their student email account. Student email address follows convention below:
Grade 5 and 6 email address convention is the student’s computer login username + @student.methacton.org. As an example, if my username is AA123456, my email address will be AA123456@student.methacton.org and the password for the email is same as their password to log onto a computer at school.
For students in grades 1-4, the primary parent/guardian contact on file for the student will be sent an email with instructions later today for how to access the email account of their child to gain the information from Educere.
High School AP students and Kindergarten students will be communicated with shortly on particular matters that can help them maintain academic focus. In the meantime, please have your child take advantage of the resources here: Student Launchpad (grades 5-12) and Elementary Student Resources (grades K-4).
There will certainly be a need for additional clarification and information. I appreciate our student and parent participation and patience.
Sincerely,
Dr. David Zerbe

Dear District Families,
Good evening. It is my sincere hope that everyone in our community is doing as well as can be during these challenging times.
The information below introduces the academic support the District is providing for students so they can continue to engage in learning during this mandated two week school closure. These activities and courses are intended to encourage our students to maintain academic focus.
The District and Educere Educational Services of Fort Washington, Pa., partnered to provide academic course content for students in grades 1 through 12 while they are at home. Educere’s curriculum is aligned to the PA Core Standards for all subjects in every grade level.
Kindergarten students will have access to online activities provided by the District.
In addition to the above referenced resources, our students will continue to have access to the District’s Student Launchpad (grades 5-12) and Elementary Student Resources (grades K-4)
More specific information about how to log into the Educere program will be shared with you in the next few days. Please note that access to this program will be linked to your child’s Methacton email account. We will also be sending student email account information and passwords to the primary parent/guardian email address on file for students in grades 1 through 4. Parents in these grades should make certain that the primary parent/guardian contact information is correct in Power School by going here.
As always, thank you for your patience, partnership and support. We will continue to communicate with you about our plans to support students and families as new information becomes available.
Sincerely,

Eagleville, PA (March 13, 2020) - On Friday, March 13, 2020, the Pennsylvania Department of Public Health informed Methacton School District that a Methacton High School student received a presumptive positive test result for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The Montgomery County Department of Public Health is currently working to determine which individuals, including other students and staff, this individual came into contact with while infected and before starting a self-isolation period. This comprehensive process, known as contact tracing, is labor-intensive and takes time to complete. The Office of Public Health will directly notify any at-risk individuals. All necessary precautions are being taken.
If you feel you may have been exposed and are showing signs or symptoms of COVID-19, please stay at home and contact your primary care physician. Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, and shortness of breath and can appear anywhere from two to fourteen days after exposure. If you feel you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, please call 9-1-1.
For more information on how Montgomery County PA is working to mitigate the impact of this virus, please visit www.montcopa.org/covid-19.

Dear Methacton Families,
In the next few days, the Methacton School District will be launching a virtual K-12 learning environment for all students to help bridge the instructional gap caused by this forced break in service. Please know that this learning environment provides an important opportunity to keep our students – your children – engaged and progressing. While this virtual environment is a good measure at this time, it in no way replaces the face-to-face instructional environment led by our highly-acclaimed staff.
In order for the implementation to work properly, all students will need access to a computer and the internet. Our first step in this process is determining if any students will need internet access, a computer, or both.
The District will be making robo-calls this evening, and on two occasions on Saturday, March 14, to provide instructions for families to inform the District that their child will need access to the internet and/or a computer. If you have access to the technology, then you can disregard the call.
It is also important for families to make sure your contact information (phone number and email) is correct in PowerSchool and SchoolMessenger. Please log into your PowerSchool and SchoolMessenger accounts to verify that your contact information is current and make changes as necessary.
Click here to access your PowerSchool account.
Click here for directions to access your existing SchoolMessenger account or to create an account.
More information will be communicated to families over the next several days.
Thank you for your patience and thank you for being a METHACTON WARRIOR!!!

Dear Methacton Families,
While you are aware of the closure of Methacton Schools effective immediately through March 27, 2020, I am certain that you are seeking additional information. Please know that the Governor’s announcement and all the coordinating information is rapidly evolving. I ask for your patience and for your adherence to the following:
- There is NO student or adult access to any building, field, or facility owned by the Methacton School District until further notice.
- Please make every effort to do your part helping to mitigate the COVID-19 matter by practicing proper and frequent sanitation, limited travel, and social distancing.
- Take this opportunity to spend time with your family.
More information will be provided following a conference with the PA Department of Education scheduled for tomorrow. I expect that their guidance will allow me to provide clearer instructions and provide greater certainty to this mandated two week closure.
Thank you in advance for being a Methacton Warrior.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced today (March 12, 2020) at 2PM EST that all Montgomery County, PA schools will be closed effective immediately through March 26, 2020.
Please know that as of this writing, all activities and operations of the district are to be treated as if each day is a SNOW DAY cancelation. This determination will remain in effect until otherwise determined and communicated from my office.

March 11, 2020 - 6:00pm
Dear Methacton Families,
On Wednesday, March 11, 2020, the Department of Public Health informed Lower Providence Township (see press release) that a Township employee has tested presumptive positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19).
As a result of the Department of Public Health’s contact tracing process, the Methacton School District has been informed that a Methacton High School employee had come into contact with the person who is infected prior to starting a self-quarantine period. Receipt of this information resulted in the immediate removal of the employee from the High School who is now self-quarantining.
In response to this matter, the Methacton School District will need to close all Methacton Schools for Thursday, March 12, 2020. Due to the large size of the High School, we will require the mobilization of cleaning staff from around the district to properly address extra cleaning/disinfecting needed while maintaining the current cleaning protocol in all of our other buildings. The make-up for this day will be determined and communicated as soon as possible, but will not be made up on Friday March 13, 2020 as per the approved school calendar.
In addition, the County is urging all school districts to cancel any large public gatherings and limit social interaction. As such, the Methacton School District, in an abundance of caution, has determined that starting March 12, 2020 through March 25, 2020, all field trips, large gatherings, and activities including community education programs/classes and outside group facility use that can potentially expose students and staff to outside threats will be cancelled/postponed/rescheduled. We will re-evaluate and communicate regarding field trips and activities beyond the time frame listed. Please be advised that athletics are not impacted. If you need additional information or clarification on an activity or event, please contact the building principal for which the activity was scheduled.
At this time, all Methacton Schools are expected to be open on Monday March 16, 2020. In the event that this should change, a communication will be sent.
I want to thank our students, parents, staff and our community for their patience, support, and understanding during this unprecedented time.
Sincerely,
Dr. David Zerbe

March 10, 2020 - 7:00pm
Dear Methacton Families,
As the evolving coronavirus outbreak continues across the country, I want to share the many proactive steps Methacton School District is taking to address this matter.
At this time, we have no presumptive or confirmed coronavirus cases at Methacton School District.
The District has reviewed our emergency preparedness plans and will continue to coordinate and cooperate with the Department of Health as we navigate the changing COVID-19 matter.
Out of an abundance of caution, we have been focusing on these 5 priority areas to mitigate future impact:
- Communications
- Cleaning/Prevention
- School site preparedness and response
- Large event and gathering preparedness
- Educational and operational continuity
In terms of communications, I will continue to send out information to our families as it becomes available. Regardless, I also plan to send communications each Monday to families so that I can ensure that we keep parents apprised of any changing matters. Please see a running list of all family communications to date.
We have placed posters throughout our buildings to inform students and staff of our preventative protocol of COVER: CLEAN: WASH: CONTAIN.
Custodial staff are in the process of distributing hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes to every classroom for use starting March 11, 2020, in our collective precautionary efforts. Please know, that as per protocol, that hand washing is the first and best step in preventing the spread of germs. Our elementary school teachers will take additional hand washing steps with students as they enter and exit the building, and before and after activities each day.
The Methacton School District implemented an enhanced cleaning protocol district-wide beginning February 27, 2020. This protocol includes using disinfectant on a daily basis and between classes on areas such as: desks; light switches; copiers; lobby guard system; countertops; door knobs/handles/; hand rails; faucets; phones; locker rooms/benches; glass doors/push bar; and essentially anything that the staff or students touch.
In terms of school preparedness and response, we have developed steps to address the handling of various situations associated with the coronavirus matter. As a district, we are encouraging anyone -- staff or student -- who is experiencing symptoms such as fever; cough; and shortness of breath, to stay home and seek medical attention. Furthermore, as parents and guardians, if you believe that your child is sick or experiencing other flu or cold like symptoms, please err on the side of caution and keep your child home and seek medical attention as you see fit. Our teachers and administrators will work with students and their families to make up assignments as needed.
We have been working with the PIAA on all athletic matters and will keep coaches, athletes, and parents apprised of venue changes and other related matters. We have had cancelations of events, such as the Reading Olympics, and several other previously planned trips. The District is considering limiting student and staff travel to areas that are a focus of infection. We are also considering limiting events hosted by outside groups in our buildings and where audience attendance brings in non-students. While decisions have not been made at this time, it is important for parents to know that notice from the State or the County may impact the ability of the district to continue providing co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
In terms of educational and operational continuity, the district is preparing stop gap measures to assist parents with the continuity of their child’s education at all levels in the instance that Methacton Schools are required to close. As an example, Dr. Sorgini is working to ensure that seniors can best meet the anticipated graduation requirements if a disruption to the school calendar should occur. The PA Department of Education has issued a statement that school districts handle the closing of schools/districts in the same manner as a weather closing. If we need to close schools, specific instructions will be provided as to how and what is needed to continue the educational process at each level.
Sincerely,
Dr. David Zerbe

Dear Elementary School Families:
Please be advised that beginning Thursday, March 12, 2020, the following preventative protocol will be put into place in all K-4 Elementary School buildings.
Extra Steps to Limit the Spread of Germs
1. Teachers will illustrate to the students the proper way to wash hands.

Dear Methacton Families,
The purpose of this communication is to provide our community with updates regarding the district’s response to the coronavirus. There is currently no plan to close any of our buildings.
The Methacton School District has been notified that a Skyview Upper Elementary School student and their adult family member may have been exposed to COVID-19 during a visit on March 3, 2020 to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia facility in King of Prussia, where a healthcare provider has been diagnosed with COVID-19. Neither the child nor the adult are exhibiting any symptoms, but at the direction of the Montgomery County Department of Health are under self-quarantine and will not be attending school.
The Methacton School District implemented an enhanced cleaning protocol district-wide beginning February 27, 2020. This protocol includes using disinfectant on a daily basis and between classes on areas such as: desks; light switches; copiers; lobby guard system; countertops; door knobs/handles/; hand rails; faucets; phones; locker rooms/benches; glass doors/push bar; and essentially anything that our staff or students touch.
Health officials reminded us that we are facing a particularly bad flu season and that preventive measures for the flu and COVID-19 are very similar. In our district, we have been communicating with staff and families regarding the use of extra-diligent personal hygiene habits along with being aware of and responsive to signs and symptoms of illness. We have placed age-appropriate posters and information about the prevention and the spreading of germs in all of our schools.
In consultation with the Montgomery County Office of Public Health and in an abundance of caution, we are taking additional action this evening by assigning extra cleaning staff to Skyview Upper Elementary School to conduct a second disinfection pass building-wide, as well as conduct cleaning of buses as needed.
The health and welfare of our students, staff and community is of utmost importance. We will continue communicating with county officials and if there are any changes, we will keep you apprised.
Thank you for your patience as we navigate this challenging matter.
Sincerely,
Dr. David Zerbe

Dear Methacton Family,
A press conference was held today by Montgomery County PA Officials with respects to 2 presumptive cases of COVID-19. According to the press conference, two adults, one in Worcester Township and one in Lower Gwynedd Township, have contracted the virus after traveling to other areas of the US.A presumptive case means that the individual has tested positive for the virus using the testing process available in the local area/state. A second test is required by the CDC to issue confirmation or to become a confirmed case. This was not concluded as of this writing.I have been informed that there is no association among the identified individuals and the Methacton School District, its schools, our staff, or our students. All schools will operate as normal.Sincerely,Dr. David Zerbe
