Grand Reopening of Mallon Planetarium Creates Out of This World Experience for Community

On November 30, 2023, members of the Methacton community celebrated the Grand Re-Opening of Mallon Planetarium. The out-of-this-world event was fun for the whole family and featured a ribbon-cutting, public walk-through, space-themed activities and art, as well as planetarium shows led by Planetarium Director Adam Chantry. Also in attendance were members of the Methacton Board of School Directors, members of the Methacton Education Foundation, PA State Representative Joe Webster, former Planetarium Director Ted Williams and family members of the late Dr. Gerald Mallon, the original Planetarium Director.

The Mallon Planetarium at Arcola Intermediate School recently completed a $1.3 million dollar renovation that updated the infrastructure, technology, seating and HVAC system. More than 85% of the funding for the improvements came from federal, state and philanthropic grant awards. The Mallon Planetarium provides co-curricular, extracurricular, and community opportunities for all life-long learners.
