Rock styles as well as folk, jazz and classical repertoire will be used in class. Techniques explored include pick style and finger style. Primary chord study using strumming will be developed. The study of music notation and theory is included in the course and is learned through workbooks and technology. Students will use nylon acoustic guitars provided in school. Guitar may be selected for one or both semesters of the school year, and be repeated all four years as schedule allows.
MUSIC THEORY AND COMPOSITION: Offered in grades 9-12
The purpose of this course is to acquaint the student with the basic principles of melody, harmony, rhythm, and music literature, and to afford an opportunity for beginning experiences in music composition. It should be considered a necessity for prospective music students.

This course is a continuation and advanced version of Music Theory and Composition. Music literature and all phases of intermediate composition and harmony are covered. Methacton Alma Mater
Methacton Alma Mater
Lyrics by Bonnie & Linda Roediger
Music by Thomas R. Middleton
Methacton, our Alma Mater
Thanks for the seeds you have sown.
May your every son and daughter
Grow the way you’ve shown.
Ever loyal to each other
In the spirit of your care
Methacton, our Alma Mater
We are glad we’ve joys to share.
The green hills call to each other
And the list’ning valleys hear
The echoes of Methacton
The name to us so dear.
Now we bloom in truth and beauty
Strong and upright and free
Ever faithful to love and duty
May we always honor thee.
