School Board Director James W. Phillips
Jim Phillips, Republican, is in touch with the needs of the residents of Montgomery County. He understands the concerns of the people because he himself is affected by big government and the depressed economy. He strives to make a difference for the working class and is determined to get them the tools needed to be sustaining and profitable again.
Mr. Phillips was raised in Bucks County, the eldest of three children born to James and Mary Annette Phillips. Mary Annette born in Wilkes Barre, PA and a Penn State Alumna, recently retired as a Teacher in the Archdiocesan Schools of Philadelphia. James, born in Oil City, PA with engineering degrees from Carnegie Mellon and University of Pennsylvania, is retired from the US Navy Department of Defense. His parents have instilled in him the importance of family, traditions, and making a difference in this world.
Mr. Phillips spent many summers working with his grandfathers where he learned the plumbing trade and worked on oil rigs. In addition he became a Volunteer Firefighter. He started his first business when he was 13 years old as a landscaper. Shortly after that he started an auto business and mastered automotive repairs and automotive body work. By the time he graduated Council Rock High School he had achieved success as an entrepreneur. He attended Johnson and Wales University and Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. He followed his passion for flying and is a licensed Commercial Pilot for private management companies. The tragedy of 9/11 greatly affected the airline industry. At the same time, he missed being with his young family. He temporarily altered his career course and applied all of his mechanical talents in his own business of rehabbing and investing in real estate properties while also being employed as a Road Construction Foreman for US Seal.
Mr. Phillips planted his roots where his family resides, and aggressively got involved in local concerns and causes. He wanted to make sure the public had a voice and that their issues were addressed. He continually advocates for transparency in government. He was elected to the Methacton School Board in 2009. He is currently the Chairman of Methacton’s Property Committee and a member of the Community Relations Committee. He successfully negotiated with Worcester Township and Methacton to begin the process of getting lights at Methacton High School fields. He is determined to hold the line on property tax by controlling the school budget. He has voted against increases that will further increase property taxes.
He is a self made man who is consistently reinventing himself. If it can be repaired, refurbished, built, or negotiated to achieve a common goal, Jim can get it done. He is determined to aid the residents of the Methacton School District.
