April 2012

To the Parents of Incoming Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors,

In order to promote the importance of reading year round, the members of the English Department in the Methacton School District will continue a required summer reading list for students at Methacton High School.

The Summer Reading List is posted on the Methacton WebPage.  In an attempt to guide your child in reading his or her summer assignment, directions and/or a purpose statement are included on the list. Books will be available for sale through the school from May7th—31st. Students can order the books through their respective English teachers and can make all payments when the books are ordered. Payments are acceptable by cash or check made out to Methacton School District.  Students may also utilize local libraries to secure the required readings, or purchase them at a local bookstore, large chain store, or online at an e-store of your choice.

Once we return to school in September, each student is required to complete an assessment for each assigned title.  This assessment will vary from grade to grade and course to course.  The project-based or written task is graded, to assess comprehension of content as well as to provide a benchmark for student growth.

We hope you agree that your child should continue the skill of reading while away from school and that you will support the English Department’s initiative.

Sincerely,

Steve Rice

English Department Coordinator

Judy Landis

Principal
