Welcome to the Methacton School District website!
Methacton is a community of about 13,000 households located in a suburb of Philadelphia in southeastern Pennsylvania. The Methacton School District has long enjoyed a tradition of excellence in education and community involvement in our schools. The District, formed in 1969, was created by a 10-year merging of the school districts that had previously served the townships of Lower Providence and Worcester. "Methacton"is an American Indian word referring to the "hill" area extending from Eagleville in Lower Providence Township through the Fairview Village area of Worcester Township, one of the highest elevations in Montgomery County. The name was chosen by a majority vote of the community members residing in the District at the time.
People make the difference for our children. The faculty and staff of the Methacton School District represent the very best that the field has to offer – dedicated individuals who are invested in the growth and success of our students.
Approximately 75 percent of our faculty members have obtained advanced degrees. Many involve themselves in our students' educational experience beyond the classroom as club sponsors, advisers and coaches. Greater than ten percent are members of another elite group – they're Methacton alumni. A figure like that demonstrates true loyalty and a sincere desire to be a part of this community's future.
Our dedicated support staff delivers integral services to our students throughout the school day and beyond. Each school year more than 5,000 students students are transported over 1.3 million miles by dedicated bus drivers and are greeted by nearly 800 exemplary educators and support staff. Our facilities include buildings totaling over 911,000 square feet of space on 214 acres and are maintained by a committed group of custodians and maintenance staff. These facilities include Methacton High School; Arcola Intermediate School; Skyview Upper Elementary School; Arrowhead, Audubon, Eagleville, Woodland and Worcester elementary schools.
We are proud of our outstanding students! More than 86 percent of our students performed at proficiency or above on the 2011 Pennsylvania State Assessment in both mathematics and reading. Our students are committed to service in the community, win numerous awards for academic excellence and participate in a vast array of extracurricular activities in athletic, musical and other areas. It is through these achievements our students stand as an example of our community's commitment to educational excellence.
On behalf of our school board and administrative team, we invite you to participate and take part in all that the Methacton School District has to offer! We are proud of the rich experiences that our district provides to our students through the valued support of our community. Together, we support our students in reaching their maximum potential!
