The Mallon Planetarium
|
![]() Last Updated September 2011 I guess you are here because you would like to know a little more about me. Thanks for your interest! I have been fortunate to work in the Mallon Planetarium at the Arcola Intermediate School since 1992. Many exciting opportunities have come my way at the Methacton School District. It has afforded me the opportunity to be a guest speaker on NPR radio for Skytour. We broadcasted Skytour live from right here on the soccer fields. I remember seeing the Milky Way that night and talking about it live on the radio. Many students attended and some were also on the radio with me. ![]() Mr. Ted Williams Mr. Scott Manning-Compu Dudes Working at Methacton has also provided me with the opportunity to be a guest presenter in the most advanced planetaria in the country. I regularly present at the Hayden Planetarium in New York (Live Under the Dome.) I also guest host some of their special events throughout the year. I speak monthly at the Fels Planetarium in the Franklin Institute for the Rittenhouse Astronomical Society (I serve as their educator and secretary.) ![]() Hayden Planetarium - Rose Science Center / New York, New York Zeiss IX (so cool!) I operated one of the district's Star-Labs which is a portable planetarium that seats about 30 students. ![]() Earth and Space Science Lab / Philadelphia Schoool District Philadelphia is where I was born and attended school. My teaching certification was earned through Penn State University. During my college years and over the summers since then, I've worked at many varied jobs and had some great experiences. I've been a radio DJ, ride operator at Great Adventure, camp counselor, commuter bus driver, stadium vendor, theater usher, short order cook, landscaper, greenhouse production assistant, tour guide and observatory operator (with a really big telescope!). All these experiences have helped me to view life from many angles. I completed my Masters Degree at Philadelphia University in Instructional Technology and Design. I thank the Methacton community for the financial assistance provided to teachers in the Methacton School District to complete my degree. Many projects I worked on are put to use in our school planetarium. I have also have had the privilege of working in other planetariums in the Philadelphia / New York area. For ten years I presented and operated evening and weekend shows in The New Jersey State Museum Planetarium. It was there that I also worked Laser Shows. the planetarium stands out at night in front of the gold dome of the state capitol building. You can see it as you drive up the Delaware River on the ![]() Thanks for taking the time to explore a little about me. I hope to get the opportunity to share some of my interests in astronomy with you in a future class. Take care, take time to look up, and always be a good observer (it's an excellent skill to work on, no matter what your interested in!) Mr. T. Williams Planetarium Director |
